Environmental Issues Project Topic Building expanding roads
Environmental Issues Project Topic : Building/expanding roads Content Introduction
- Environmental issues are in the news every day. There seems to be constant disagreement over what is actually happening, and what, if anything, we should do about it. But it is difficult for anyone to really understand the issues without knowing the context of the issue. For instance, the issue of availability of clean water for drinking and daily use has little meaning here in Southeast Virginia, while in other parts of the world, some people may spend six to eight hours every day to get enough water for family use. In those areas, availability of clean water is a daily struggle. Similarly, land use issues, solid waste disposal, clean air, etc. are continuing issues everywhere.Consequently, during this project, you will investigate a local environmental issue that will culminate in a presentation summarizing your findings. The objectives for the project are listed below:
- 1. Increase awareness of local environmental problems and understand why a particular local environmental problem is important.
- 2. Improve your ability to acquire and present data in graphic form to support conclusions.
- 3. Be able to describe the larder contact of the problem, including both scientific as well as social, economic, and political issues that are an integral to every environmental issue.
- 4. Be able to clearly and concisely articulate the problem, and propose solutions (always more than one) to the problem or the reason no action should be taken.
- 5. Be able to describe trade-offs involved in adopting different solutions.
- 6. Be able to predict the outcomes of the possible solutions when implemented.
- 7. Be able to determine what additional information is needed to render a more fully informed opinion (perfect knowledge is never available).
- 8. Be able to demonstrate the ability to develop an effective PowerPoint presentation.
- Environmental issues project procedures 1. Select a topic (see a list of possible options below) and submit your top 3 prior to the due date.
- 2. Select a partner (if you wish to work with a partner). You may also work independently.
- 3. Research your selected topic. You will need to cite a minimum of five sources and document those references on the last slide of your presentation as well as on individual slides, where appropriate.
- 4. Create a PowerPoint presentation summarizing your findings, addressing each of the project objectives. Be sure to use the rubric below to see exact expectations. 5. Presentation will contain a minimum of 16 slides (excluding the title page and reference page).
- 6. Include at least one original graph and/or table (that means you designed and built the graph).
- 7. Submit your completed project in the designated Discussion Board forum within the Lab Blackboard site prior to the due date.
- 8. After the project due date, review all other projects and post comments (appropriate, of course) on at least 5 other projects prior to the comments due date.
