Week 2 Discussion
Week 2: Fractions in Everyday Life
Fractions and mixed numbers are
often used in everyday life. Discuss a real-life example in which you would
need to add, subtract, multiply, or divide fractions or mixed numbers, and show
the math.
Use * for multiplication and / for division, or click on the√x
√x icon on the discussion toolbar to find the × and ÷
signs. Don't use the x on the keyboard. That is the letter x, not the
multiplication symbol.
For example:
I run 1/8 mile every minute. How many miles can I run in 30 minutes?
1/8 * 30
=1/8 * 30/1
= 30/8
= 15/4
= 3 3/4 miles
(notice how ALL computation is shown!)
