Instructions: Last week, you were asked to determine a functional hypothesis based on the scenarios. This week, you will further that. Consider this scenario for little Jocelyn. She is 5 years old and has in-home ABA services. She engages in a lot of "swiping" behavior and her parents are frustrated. The BCBA has you (the RBT) taking some ABC data. Below is what you have gathered so far.

Step 1: Your BCBA asks you to practice writing a functional hypothesis for this behavior. Remember the structure to a functional hypothesis (see lecture video). Why is Jocelyn doing this?

Step 2: Your BCBA has finished the FBA and BIP based on the function you chose. You will now work on reducing the swiping behavior. Come up with a way to measure this behavior. How will you collect data? Frequency? Interval? Submit your datasheet.

Step 3: Reflect. Answer these questions:

·         What replacement behavior would suggest teaching instead? Think about choosing a functionally equivalent behavior.

·         Why is it important that we reduce this swiping behavior?

·         If this behavior were to be placed on extinction, what can we expect to happen? What do parents need to be aware of?
