Learning Paper: Legal Requirements
Applied Learning Assignment 2 - Legal Requirements for
Compensation and Benefits – (18% of final grade)
Select an
organization or industry you are familiar with and define at least 10 local
and/or national legal compensation and benefit requirements for that
organization. You will need to review the legal requirements for the state that
the organization has their primary operations and also review the legal
national legal requirements the organization needs to abide by. The SHRM web
sites Legal section is an excellent starting place. See: http://www.shrm.org/LegalIssues/StateandLocalResources/Pages/default.aspx
Create a
10 – 15 page PowerPoint presentation that:
a) Provides a brief overview of
the organization including, but not limited to the name, number of employees,
state where the primary (home) office is located and what other states the
organization has employees. (2 points)
b) Detailed overview of 10 legally
required compensation and benefits that must be provided to employees in the
primary (home) office. Ensure that you have one or two slides per benefit including
and a brief (2 – 3 sentence) definition of the benefit listed in the “notes”
section of the presentation. (1.20 points for each legal requirement – total of
12 points).
Writing and
presentation format (4 points total):
The first slide
must include: a) course name, b) student name, c) assignment title followed by
name of the organization, d) date and e) professors name (.5 points)
Must not have
any spelling or grammar errors (1 points).
Last slide must
list sources. Must use at least 5 external sources with one being SHRM. The
sources need to be formatted using APA style (2.5 points).
FYI...SHRM offers a wide variety of HR Legal references. See: http://msg.shrm.org/site/MessageViewer?em_id=4973.0&dlv_id=8295
