Motivate Me!
Discussion Instructions
Please refer to the
Discussion Grading Rubric for details regarding how your performance will be
assessed. NOTE: Please be certain to read the entire
discussion assignment since in some cases there is more than one question
you need to discuss, respond to, or address. Be sure that you have answered the
entire question!
Initial Post
This posting should be
a minimum of one short paragraph and a maximum of two paragraphs. Word totals
for this post should be in the 100–200-word range. Explain why with supporting
evidence and concepts from the course material. Include in-text citations
and associated references in a reference list.
Preparation
In business, being able
to motivate people to succeed is imperative to the success of the organization.
This Inc. magazine article, lists 17 ways great leaders
motivate their people. For the purpose of this discussion, choose one of
the following leaders and research who they are and what job they hold or held.
17
Ways Great Leaders Motivate Their People
Martin Luther King
Sheryl Sandberg
Indra Nooyi
Hillary Clinton
Steve Jobs
Mary Barra
Colin Powell
Michele Buck
Condolezza Rice
Mahatma Gandhi
Saddam Hussein
Winston Churchill
For Discussion
1. In
your initial post, discuss which one of the seventeen traits mentioned in the
article he/she possesses and why they are able to motivate their
employees/followers. Please DO NOT discuss your personal feelings pro/con
regarding these individuals. You are analyzing why they are successful.
Sometimes, it is interesting to research someone you do not particularly like.
2. Provide
an example (supported by research) of a time when this individual served as a
motivator for others.
3. Based
on the material you studied this week, the experience of being motivated
yourself, and your experience motivating others, what is it about this person
that you believe made or makes them a motivator. Do they motivate YOU? Why?
Instructions for
Responses to Classmates’ Posts
After you have created
your initial post, look over the discussion posts of your classmates and give
at least two responses to different classmates (one per classmate) as outlined
in the Discussion Grading Rubric.
A response posting
should be a minimum of one short paragraph. Word totals for these posts should
be in the 75–100-word range. The goal of your response posts is to
extend discussions already taking place or pose new possibilities or ideas not
previously voiced. Your goal should be to motivate the group discussion
and present a creative approach to the topic. Do not merely agree or
disagree, repeating what a classmate stated or what you already stated.
Explain why with supporting evidence and concepts from the course material.
Include in-text citations and associated reference within a reference
list.
