While some mergers do well (e.g., Centene acquisition of WellCare) others do not leading sometimes to divestment after a time (Quaker and Snapple, for example). If you are unable to come up with a choice of your own, then you may choose the merger of Hewlett Packard and Compaq Computers from roughly 10+ years ago. When the merger was announced, it was criticized as not making 'financial sense' by some very powerful voices, and once consummated, the merged company's CEO was fired.
