DISCUSSION: Managing Speech Anxiety and Adapting to your Audience
After you have read Chapters 2 and 5,
engage in a discussion with your classmates on the following points:

Some people are anxious about public speaking because of previous
experiences. Talk about your previous experience and what you liked or did not
like about them.

Discuss some of the positive coping statements for before, during and
after you give a speech. Your text lists some of them... do you have others to
suggest?

Find an advertisement, print or video, that you think is ineffective.
Upload or describe it here and identify what parts of it are ineffective. Do
you believe you are the "target" of the advertisement? If not, who do
you believe is the target? Shifting your perspective, would you give the
advertisement a higher rating? Why? How does being able to identify your
audience make you a more effective communicator?
