Week 1 Introduction: Course Overview

"In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came to Jerusalem and besieged it. And the Lord gave Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand…" (Daniel 1:1-2, English Standard Version)

These two verses from the Book of Daniel establish the context in which four men of Israel—Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego—found themselves after Nebuchadnezzar took them captive and selected them to serve in his court. While held in a foreign land and pressured to conform to its pagan culture, Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego are examples of how believers can serve and influence their cultures while remaining faithful to God.
