2.   Read Chapter 16 in Communication in the Real World:  An Introduction to Communication Studies.

3.   View/read the resources on digital natives vs immigrants.

b.   Digital Natives vs. Digital Immigrants

4.   Navigate to the threaded discussion and respond to the following prompts, making sure you have identified and applied the theories and concepts in 16.3 section of the textbook:

a.   Do you find the constant connectivity that comes with personal media overstimulating or comforting?

b.   List 2 positive ways and 2 negative ways the new media have impacted our culture.

5.   Your initial post is due by the end of the fourth day of the workshop.

6.   Read and respond to at least two of your classmates’ postings, as well as all follow-up instructor questions directed to you, by the end of the workshop.  In addition to other comments you may have, address the following questions in your response posts:

a.   Do your peers follow similar experiences with people in their lives as you do in yours? Explain.

b.   Do your peers’ notions of influence of social media reveal anything new that you hadn't considered? Explain.

7.   Your postings should also:

a.   Be well developed by providing clear answers with evidence of critical thinking.

b.   Add greater depth to the discussion by introducing new ideas.

c.   Provide clarification to classmates’ questions and provide insight into the discussion.
