Applying an Ethical Framework
Read the following article: "A Framework for Thinking
Ethically ." Take note of the limitations (what ethics is not) near
the beginning.
Evaluate the five sources
of ethical standards. List one pro and one con for each.
Describe an ethical
dilemma that you or a coworker might face. Briefly evaluate the decision to be
made using each of the five approaches (this should take the form of a sentence
or two, including a statement of the decision you would reach using that
approach). Note that the different approaches will not always produce the same
decision.
Evaluate the same
decision using a profit-maximization approach (again, providing a sentence or
two about what you would conclude and why).
Describe your personal
ethical framework, including in what it is based (i.e. the Bible, personal
experience, philosophy, etc.). Ensure that your framework is general
enough to apply to any situation, but specific enough to be useful. This should
be accomplished in a few sentences.
