BI 214 Week 1 Discussion 1 | Assignment Help | Park University
Unit 1: Discussion 1
You are required to post your initial answers ; your comments on
the postings of your classmates are due by Sunday at midnight.
Please be sure that your comments to peers are substantive; do not simply write
"I disagree"; if you disagree, go on to explain your comment and add
your own insights. All initial and
follow-up responses require research and appropriate citations. You
should have a minimum of two postings (one
initial and one/more follow-up response/s) for each thread.
The following rubric
will be used to score your discussion postings:
1-3
points |
Only
minimal response given with no elaboration OR failed to complete follow-up
postings |
4-7
points |
Basic
response and follow-up posting; all were clear and relevant, but needed more
detail. |
8-10
points |
All
responses were elaborated, clear, and detailed; complete responses and
follow-up postings. |
Discussion Topic
The purpose of this
discussion topic is to not only introduce you to the concepts of health and wellness,
but to also ensure that you understand the proper use of resources when
answering discussion questions, homework questions or even quiz questions. In
this class you will be exposed to new concepts and terms. When you prepare your
answers, the easiest way out might be to copy and paste from a website or copy
passages from your text. However, you may remember from the syllabus that you
are NOT allowed to do this. The proper use of information involves:
·
Paraphrasing or summarizing information that you find
and the proper citation of the reference. This means that you MUST USE
YOUR OWN WORDS in your responses.
·
Limited direct quotation of phrases using
quotation marks. Large amounts of quoted material will NOT be accepted.
·
Proper citation of the reference (see the Reference Format) .
Copying and pasting
information without quotation marks is plagiarism, EVEN if you
cite the source correctly. You MUST also provide complete
citations for every source that you use; even your text. When you do use your
text, please also list the pages that you used.
Discussion Assignment
Below is information
from an Original Source that discusses the difference between health and
wellness. Responses #1 and #2 are attempts to use that information to answer
the question: "What is health and wellness?". Read them over
carefully and then address the questions below.
Original source
Health is merely
defined as the presence or absence of disease. This refers to the state of
bodily functions at any given time or place. Wellness, on the other hand, is a
much broader topic and refers to the physical, mental, emotional, spiritual,
and physiologic state of the individual and his relationship to his/her
environment.

Response #1
Health can be defined
as the presence or absence of disease. This means the state of bodily functions
at any given time or place. Wellness, however, is a much broader topic and
refers to the physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and physiologic state of
the person and their relationship to his or her environment.

Response #2
Health and wellness
are sometimes used interchangeably, but in fact there is a difference between
the two terms. Health is considered "the presence or absence of
disease", such as the physical well-being of our body at any given point
in time. Wellness, on the other hand, refers to "the physical, mental,
emotional, spiritual, and physiologic state of the individual and his
relationship to his/her environment".

Based on what you know
about plagiarism and our course policies:
1.
Does either Response #1 or Response #2 constitute plagiarism?
Explain your answer.
2.
How would you grade Response #1 and Response
#2? Explain your answer.
3.
Find another source (e.g., your book) that addresses health and
wellness and summarize in your own words the difference
between health and wellness.
4.
Relate this understanding to your own life and
your approach to your overall health.
You will need to
provide a proper citation for all of your sources, including author, date and title.
This might involve a little work, but all of that information is available. If
you are unable to find the author, list the author as anonymous. And you will
need to cite any OTHER sources you used. Please use the Reference Format file to determine how to properly cite
your sources.
