How can I calculate discounts (-/%) without using a calculator

I mainly use this manual trick through using the calculator for example (40% of $720 - > 720:100= 7,2 X 40 = $720 - $288 = $432

$432 is the price completely calculated

40% = 40X

-$288  used to decrease the actual price ($720)


But I really want to calculate a discounted price without using a calculator as it seems pretty easier. Any method?

    Best and to calculate discount mentally is10% rule :As per your example : 40% = 10% * 4So 10% of 72 ****** ******
