Narrative of
environmental justice
In this Assessment, you are going to write a
coherent essay that demonstrates to me your mastery of content learned in class
by articulating a historical narrative of the Environmental Justice Movement in
the United States, in your own words. It will be similar to Luke &
Cole’s and to my own on Latina/o Environmental Resisters in the Americas. It
will be distinct as you select the events that you believe are important in
narrating this history.
Your essay will do the following:
1. It will integrate course readings,
online zoom discussions, homework assignments, journal entries, and news on a
local, national and global level.
2. It will also include your personal
definition of environmental justice (EJ) and environmental racism (ER). If you
cite it from someone else, you will not get credit for the terms.
3. Lastly, you will
narrate the history of the Environmental Justice Movement in the United
States, in a chronological
sequence. In this part, you
will choose a minimum of 5-6
events to frame your narrative
which will include select people, places, legislation, etc., that you believe
are critical considerations in narrating this story.
The “A” essay will link past environmental justice
issues with pressings ones today.
