Reintegrative Shaming

Australian criminologist John Braithwaite has suggested a new approach to punishment called reintegrative shaming.  What is reintegrative shaming, and how does it differ from stigmatic shaming?  Might reintegrative shaming be more effective at reducing recidivism than stigmatic shaming?  If so, why?
