Discussion - Normal Distribution

The normal distribution is one of the most popular and useful continuous probability distribution. Because the normal distribution is symmetrical, its midpoint is the the mean and values on the X axis are measured in terms of how many standard deviation they lie from the mean. The area under the curve describes the probability that a random variable has a value in a specified interval.  Discuss the technique used to find the probability of an event that has a normal distribution.

Discussion topics:

a) why do we need to convert the normal distribution into a standard normal distribution?

b) what is the relevance of Z? how is it calculated? what does it mean?

c) What is the meanings of ±1, 2, and 3 standard deviation symmetrical areas?
