Instructions

1.   Review the rubric to make sure you understand the criteria for earning your grade.

2.   Re-read Chapter 1.4 and read chapter 10 in Communication in the Real World:  An Introduction to Communication Studies

3.   Navigate to the threaded discussion and respond to the following prompts:

a.   Think about an instance (or several instances) when you were extremely anxious about having to make a public presentation.  This presentation could be a formal speech, an oral report, introducing someone to a group, or even simply speaking up in a group.  In two to three well-developed paragraphs, address the following questions:

                i.        What steps did you take to decrease your apprehension?

              ii.        What worked?

             iii.        What did not work?

            iv.        Any ideas from the reading that were helpful?

b.   Test your speaking anxiety using McCroskey's "Personal Report of Public Speaking Anxiety" (PRPSA).  You can access the scale here: Speaking Anxiety Follow the directions to determine your score. Do you agree with the result? Why or why not?

4.   Your initial post is due by the end of the fourth day of the workshop.

5.   Read and respond to at least two of your classmates’ postings, as well as all follow-up instructor questions directed to you, by the end of the workshop. In your responses to your classmates, provide three tips that you use to decrease apprehension.

6.   Your postings should also:

a.   Be well developed, providing clear answers with evidence of critical thinking.

b.   Add greater depth to the discussion by introducing new ideas.

c.   Provide clarification to classmates’ questions and provide insight into the discussion.
