2.   Read Chapter 8 in Communication in the Real World:  An Introduction to Communication Studies.

a.   View the video:  Cross Cultural Communication

b.   Navigate to the threaded discussion and respond to the following prompts:

                i.         

1.   Scenario: You have been asked to speak to the local community college about intercultural communication.

2.   What are some methods for finding out characteristics of your audience?

3.   What are some general speech topics you might consider for further development?

4.   Take one of those general topics and create a speaking outline (introduction, three main points, and conclusion).

c.   Your initial post is due by the end of the fourth day of the workshop.

d.   Read and respond to at least two of your classmates’ postings, as well as all follow-up instructor questions directed to you, by the end of the workshop. In addition to the other comments you have, address the following in your response posts:

1.   Which topics did your peers consider that you think are useful for a community college?

2.   Would you add any main points to your peers’ proposed outlines? Would you remove any?

e.   Your postings should also:

1.   Be well developed by providing clear answers with evidence of critical thinking.

2.   Add greater depth to the discussion by introducing new ideas.

3.   Provide clarification to classmates’ questions and provide insight into the discussion.
