COMM 301 Week 7 Assignment 1 | Los Rios Community College

Persuasive Rough Draft Outline Peer Review

Make sure you look at the example persuasive outlines.  Then by Sunday, post your own rough draft of your persuasive outline as a PDF, Word or Google Doc (no Apple Pages).

Outline directions:

Your outline should be double spaced and written in 12 point Times New Roman font.**

·         This is a full-sentence outline

·         Your outline should be in MLA formatting, meaning Times New Roman 12 pt font, double spacing, last name and page number header in upper right hand corner.

·         Your outline should include in-text citations for any information you got from your sources.

·         Start with your topic, general purpose, and specific purpose.

·         Next write out your organizational pattern

·         For the introduction section of your outline, write out your attention grabber, followed by your thesis statement, then your preview, and a transition (Unless you are doing MMS, in which case your introduction is a bit different.  Refer to your textbook and the example Monroe's Motivated Sequence outline to see how to complete an introduction in this organizational pattern).

·         Main points will be listed in roman numerals (I. II. III.)

·         Subpoints will be listed in upper case letters (A. B. C. etc)

·         Demonstration will be listed in numbers (1. 2. 3. 4. Etc)

·         Write your transitions in between all three parts of your speech (intro, body, conclusion) as well as between each of your main points.

·         For your conclusion section of your outline, write out your restatement of your thesis statement and your review of your main points.

Works Cited Page

o    At the end of your outline on a separate page, you must include an MLA style Works Cited Page (Our textbook does not go over the Works Cited page, but we learned about this in the Library Research Tutorial's MLA module as well as the "How to Create MLA citations" page)

!IMPORTANT NOTE!- A full sentence outline cannot replace speaking cards. Under no circumstances should you ever attempt to use your full sentence outline to give your speech or put your entire speech on cards in little tiny writing. You will end up reading a sequence of words to your audience instead of telling them your message.

On Monday morning, you will be assigned two peers to review.  Give them feedback on their outline according to the outline directions above.
