COM 480 Week 5 Assignment Help | Ashford University
Final Project
Focus of
the Final Project
In this capstone course students will develop a professional portfolio using
the portfolio hosting site Portfolium , which may be
accessed directly from the classroom by clicking on the word Portfolium in the
left-hand menu. The final project is a compilation of content that
illustrates the skill and professionalism of students’ work created in this
course and from writings completed in previous courses. Students will design a
professional portfolio to use in demonstrating their abilities and showcasing
their work to prospective employers and other audiences.
Writing the Final Project
In Weeks One through Five of this class
the student will have a written assignment that will contribute to the
development of a professional portfolio.
1.
In Week One, students will create a portfolio using the instructions
provided by Portfolium in their website. Students will initially focus on
completing their portfolio profile section and creating a visual
self-introduction, such as a video or personal brochure. Note that some
students may have created their portfolio for a previous class and would only
need to share the link and plan the visual self-introduction if this is the
case.
2.
In Week Two, students will write a 250 to 300-word summary of each of
the four different media technologies selected in the Discussion of that week
and will post the summaries in their portfolio (four summaries total, either as
four separate documents or a single document containing four summaries).
Students will continue to enhance and revise the profile, skills, design and
content included in their portfolio. Students will add a version of their
resume to their portfolio, being careful to omit any personal contact
information (an email address may be included, optionally). Additionally,
students are required to add to their portfolio selected materials that will
demonstrate mastery of communication studies and writing skills over the
remainder of the course. (Adding written work from previous courses as
additional content is highly recommended.)
3.
In Week Three, students will review a specific case study and explain in
350 to 700 words how they would deliver bad news tactfully and effectively, and
will add this case study to their portfolios.
4.
In Week Four, students will review and critique three of their fellow
classmates’ portfolios. Students will use the feedback they receive from each
other to improve their own portfolios.
5.
In Week Five, students will add a generic cover letter to their
portfolio, and are encouraged to make any other necessary revisions to
their portfolios. During this course students have been gradually designing
their own professional portfolios. Students completed portfolios will be graded
on the following elements:
a.
Portfolio profile, which includes both a personal profile image and
cover image and the identification of at least six specific skills.
b.
A self-introduction with multiple visual/multimedia elements, such as a
video or illustrated flyer or brochure.
c.
Includes the following four specific assignments required for this
Capstone course:
i.
Media Technology
ii.
Delivering Bad News Tactfully and Effectively.
iii.
Resume (with personal contact information excluded)
iv.
Generic Cover Letter (with personal contact information excluded)
v.
At least 4 more examples of past work, with a higher number encouraged
d.

Portfolium
e.
You are encouraged to follow companies and connect with people
(especially members of this class) in Portfolium as well. This is for
your own benefit and not a component of the grade for this project.
To submit this assignment, please create an APA title page that also includes
an approximately 250 word reflection on your experiences creating your
portfolio as well as a 250-500 word reflection about your experiences as a
Communication Studies major, including plans for your future. Be sure to
also include the URL for your portfolio in this word document.
